Seaspan strike disrupts Canadian ports

Must read

Captains and crew aboard tug and barge company Seaspan’s tugboats operating in British Columbia, Canada commenced a strike 25 August

Crews working on Seaspan’s ferry system and at shipyard and drydock facilities are not taking part in the strike.

However, cruise ships sailing from Vancouver were affected. Celebrity Eclipse and Disney Wonder both had their departures delayed.

While Seaspan does not directly assist cruise ships, tugs were attached to both vessels and workers from the Canadian Merchant Services Guild have been on strike. The strike began after the crew’s union, the Canadian Merchant Service Guild, failed to reach an agreement with Seaspan over contracts. Seaspan operates a fleet of over 30 tugboats and workers have been without a contract since September 2019.
