Petrobras has awarded Sembcorp Marine an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the P-82 FPSO, notching another S$4.3Bn (US$3Bn) to the company orderbook

The newbuild will be one of the largest vessels deployed in the deepwater Buzios field in the pre-salt Santos basin, about 180 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

P-82 is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2026, with expected commercial operations later that year. It will be the 10th vessel to operate in the pre-salt field, adding a production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil per day and 12M m3 of gas processing per day.

The FPSO is part of Petrobras’ new generation of production facilities, characterised by its high production capacity. The unit will be equipped with water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day and a storage capacity of 2M barrels of oil.

Sembcorp Marine president and chief executive Wong Weng Sun said, “We are very pleased to be awarded this contract and to support Petrobras to grow its FPSO fleet in Brazil. We have been supporting Petrobras over the past decades and are thankful that Petrobras has entrusted yet another project, the P-82 FPSO to Sembcorp Marine.”

The company has delivered 13 FPSO, FSO and FPU projects for deployment in Brazil, with the last one rolling out in September 2019 when Sembmarine’s subsidiary Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) delivered the newbuild FPSO P-68 to Tupi for work in the ultra-deepwater Berbigão and Sururu fields in the Santos basin.

EJA is expected to deliver another newbuild, P-71, in Q4 2022. The FPSO will be deployed to the Itapu field.

P-82 is the largest contract secured by Sembcorp Marine from Petrobras. Brazil’s oil major previously awarded Keppel Shipyard a US$2.9Bn deal to build the P-80 FPSO, which will also operate in the Búzios field.
