Shandong Port Group Delegation visits Port of Gdansk

Must read

The Port of Gdansk received a delegation from Shandong Port Group (SPG), the world’s largest port group. The dialogue focused on the need to extend cooperation not only with the Port of Qingdao, but with the entire vast SPG network, thus seeking to consolidate the Polish terminal’s position in global trade.

A crucial point on the agenda was the discussion on investment in land infrastructure, with special emphasis on railway development within the Middle Corridor, a vital artery for Eurasian transport.

Furthermore, alternative transport routes were actively explored. Apart from the usual maritime route around Africa, the logistical possibilities offered by the Northern Sea Route were examined, an alternative that promises to drastically shorten transit times, reducing the journey from approximately 50 days to a range of 25 to 27.

This important meeting also facilitated networking between the Chinese delegation and key players in the Polish industry. The SPG representatives had the opportunity to exchange views with port operators and companies from the Pomerania region, including Chipolbrok, Port Gdanski Eksploatacja, Baltic Hub, Invest in Pomerania and InvestGDA.

This day represents a firm step in strengthening the position of the Port of Gdansk on the global shipping and container map.

The visit to Poland is part of an existing collaboration with the Port of Qingdao since 2016, but which has now elevated the level of talks to a strategic character, including for the first time the entire SPG, a giant that handles 1.8 billion tons of cargo and 44 million TEU per year and employs more than 60 thousand people. The group operates 21 main port areas and more than 370 docks, connecting through 370 shipping lines with 700 ports in 180 countries.
