The Emilia-Romagna Region has announced that it has signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Customs and Monopolies Agency – Territorial Directorate of Emilia-Romagna and Marche and the Central Northern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, to strengthen the competitiveness of the regional production and logistics system, jointly planning initiatives aimed at favoring the enhancement of the Emilia-Romagna Simplified Logistics Zone (Zlser).

The agreement was presented by the President of the Region, Michele de Pascale, by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Irene Priolo, by the Territorial Director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, Marco Cutaia, and by the Special Commissioner of the Port System Authority, Francesco Benevolo.

“This agreement represents an important step forward to strengthen the role of Emilia-Romagna as a strategic hub for international trade and to place the regional logistics platform in a position to compete with the most important hubs in Europe,” stated de Pascale and Priolo. “The agreement will allow the full development of the potential of the Emilia-Romagna Simplified Logistics Zone, which has the port of Ravenna as its reference port system, with the aim of integrating regional logistics infrastructures, connecting them with regional production and commercial areas, and increasing efficiency in the movement of goods. Furthermore, the path for the possible establishment of a Customs Free Zone will be explored.”

“This is an important opportunity for the entire regional business fabric, which will be able to attract new investments and open up more easily to international markets. An initiative that will act as a strategic lever not only for Emilia-Romagna, but for the entire country, in terms of attractiveness, technological development and competitiveness,” conclude de Pascale and Priolo.

“With this protocol, we strengthen the collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region and with the Port System Authority of Ravenna to give full operability to the Simplified Logistics Zone,” declares the Territorial Director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, Marco Cutaia. “The Agency will make available expertise and tools to simplify trade flows, make the logistics chain more efficient and favor the growth of local businesses.”

“The Protocol signed today, in the spirit of continuity of collaboration between the Central Northern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Customs and Monopolies Agency, allows the port of Ravenna to have a further effective element of attractiveness as a strategic logistics hub at the service of the country’s production system,” adds Francesco Benevolo, Special Commissioner of the Romagna System Authority. “The establishment of the Zls represents a concrete opportunity to further consolidate that regional logistics system which sees the port of Ravenna as its gateway to international markets, and today’s signing seals the commitment to work all together to help make this territory even more competitive, able to attract new investments and promote increasingly sustainable and innovative development.”

To ensure effective coordination and the concrete application of actions, the establishment of a Technical Table is envisaged, composed of representatives from the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Customs and Monopolies Agency, and the Central Northern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority.
