Spain: Port of Santander increases capacity with expansion of tracks for container cranes

Must read

The Port of Santander increased its capacity with the expansion of the lanes intended for the movement of container cranes located at Raos 3, a project that represented an investment of 2,489,365 euros (USD 2.9 million).

The president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, highlighted that “we have doubled the performance capacity of this dock and provided an immediate response to the demands of our clients.”

“This means that, from now on, two vessels can operate simultaneously at the Boluda container terminal,” which “will reduce transit times by seven days and optimize storage in the yard,” stated Díaz.

The port official explained that “Boluda Maritime Terminals Santander is proving to be one of the most competitive logistics facilities in our country since, in just two years, it has been able not only to exceed the best forecasts but also to knock on the door of the national top-10 and contribute to the strengthening of the companies in our hinterland.”

The top representative of the port administration recalled that “in these two years” new maritime connections and alliances have been added, “such as the existing one between Boluda Lines and Samskip” and “successive investments in machinery, yard expansions, facilities, railway siding, or this one that we complete today” have been made.

The executive president of Boluda Shipping, Ignacio Boluda, stated that this investment “represents a significant improvement for our current facility, thus guaranteeing the work window for the different regular container services and ensuring operability in the port.”

Undoubtedly, “an important step forward for the efficiency and optimization of our intermodal logistics services. Allowing two vessels to operate simultaneously, as is the case today, a vessel from Boluda Lines and a vessel from our partner Samskip, reducing transit times by 7 days for North Europe traffic with Cádiz, Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and Senegal,” added Boluda.
