The Port of Castellón will reorganize two of its three terminals with 1.4 kilometers of multipurpose quay to continue gaining market share, attract new cargo movements, and consolidate its growth.
This reorganization was approved in the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Castellón and represents a decisive step in the transformation of the facility’s operational model, as it is the first step to transform these facilities into large multipurpose areas, capable of handling liquid bulk, solid bulk, and containerized cargo on more than 1.4 kilometers of berth.
The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rubén Ibáñez, stated that “this is a long-range strategic project that will mark a before and after in the operation of the port, increasing its operational flexibility, its ability to respond to market needs, and its competitiveness in the Mediterranean arc.”
“The goal is to move towards a more diversified and dynamic model, aligned with the growth of the port and with the demand from new clients and operators. We are building a more competitive, more organized, and better-prepared port for future challenges,” explained Ibáñez.
The creation of multipurpose terminals will allow not relying on the excessive specialization of each quay, which avoids bottlenecks and facilitates the quick handling of any type of cargo. The new terminals will provide greater operations and movements to the Port of Castellón. Furthermore, they will enable the management of up to 8 million tons of solid bulk and 250,000 TEUs.
