Yesterday morning, the Port Authority of Kardamaina Kos was informed that the passenger-car ferry (P/C) ship “PANAGIA EVANGELISTRIA” H. 12930 ran aground on sandy shallows during its entry procedure into the port.
The result of the grounding was a slight bending of the ship’s right propeller. The P/C was performing a scheduled route from Nisyros to Tilos – Kardamaina. The Port Station of Kardamaina initially prohibited the departure of the “PANAGIA EVANGELISTRIA”, but after the submission of a certificate from the attending naval surveyor, its departure was permitted to perform a single voyage to the port of Perama, empty of cargo and passengers. No injuries were reported from the incident and no marine pollution was observed.
