Sugar export restrictions in India

Must read

India’s Ministry of Commerce has decided to regulate export of sugar for the first time in six years, effective from 1 June to 31 October 2022 or until further orders.

Export of raw, refined and white sugar will be placed under the ‘Restricted’ category, except for fixed quantity of sugar being exported under CXL and TRQ quota to the EU and USA.

From 1 June onwards, export of sugar will only be permitted with the specific permission of the Directorate of Sugar, Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.

Detailed procedures for the issue of necessary permissions for the export of sugar will be notified separately by the DPFD.

This move is to control inflation and the unprecedented growth in exports of sugar, and the need to maintain adequate stocks in the country.
