Svitzer Europe is adding another escort tug to its fleet in the UK after its delivery at a Turkish shipyard

 

Uzmar Shipyard built Svitzer Elizabeth to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 3200W design with propulsion complying with IMO Tier III emissions standards.

This azimuth stern drive tug has with two thrusters powered by twin main diesel engines linked to a selective catalytic reduction unit for removing NOx from the exhaust.

This 498-gt tug has an overall length of 32 m, a beam of around 14 m, a FiFi1 class fire-fighting system, an escort class winch on the fore deck, and is sailing under the UK flag.

Svitzer Europe regional technical manager Erik Mainkvist said Svitzer Elizabeth will be “be one of the strongest tugboats in the region when it goes into service.”

It is en route to escort and berth ships in the Port of Liverpool in northwest England.

Liverpool port manager Jennifer Beswick cut the ribbon for the tug’s departure from Uzmar Shipyard.

Mr Mainkvist said Svitzer Europe will work with Uzmar to construct more tugboats for global operations.“We are continuing preparations with Uzmar to start the construction of two TRansverse tugboats, whose contracts we signed in the past weeks,” he said.

“Thanks to this co-operation, I hope we will witness the successful conclusion of many more projects.”

Uzmar chairman of the board A Noyan Altuğ said Svitzer Elizabeth has “operational and innovative features” and “superior technological equipment and maritime capability.”

“We are working to make a difference in the world with our progressive projects that we invest in for future generations; our environmentally friendly and sustainable vessels with low emissions and carbon footprints,” said Mr Altuğ.

“We export our intellectual and technical knowhow, years of experience, enhanced technology and technical capability of Turkish engineering.”
