Swan Defence and Samsung Heavy Industries sign MoU on shipbuilding and maritime projects

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), India’s largest shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Samsung Heavy Industries, a global shipbuilder specializing in complex vessels, SDHI said in a statement.

The agreement covers joint exploration of commercial shipbuilding and heavy engineering projects in domestic and international markets. Planned collaborations include tankers, gas carriers, container ships, and specialized vessels.

The partnership also targets next-generation vessel designs, green technologies, and digital shipbuilding methodologies.

According to Rear Admiral Vipin Kumar Saxena (retd.), CEO of SDHI, “We are excited to partner with Samsung Heavy Industries, a global leader in shipbuilding. Our shared vision is to deliver enhanced value to customers and shape the future of shipbuilding through advanced technologies and strategic cooperation. We look forward to exploring new opportunities and strengthening this partnership in due course.”

The agreement emphasizes value engineering in production design and localization of material sourcing to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

SDHI operates India’s largest dry dock measuring 662 by 65 meters, with a capacity of 400,000 deadweight tons, and has an annual steel fabrication capacity of 144,000 tons. The shipyard includes a 750 by 265 meter offshore yard for large platforms, offshore structures, and heavy engineering modules up to 10,000 tons.

Samsung Heavy Industries is a South Korean publicly traded company incorporated under Korean law. It is part of the Samsung Group and engages in the design, manufacture, and supply of ships and offshore facilities, with a focus on technologically complex and specialized vessels.
