Tanker hit by Russian drone attack on Izmail port

Must read

The Panama-flagged chemical and product tanker is reportedly severely damaged following a Russian drone attack on the port of Izmail, Ukraine, on the night of August 20.

The 7,842 dwt Excellion was moored at the eastern quay of Izmail’s oil terminal when a series of drones hit both port facilities and the ship. According to Russian-affiliated media and military sources, up to 20 drones were used, and at least 30 explosions were recorded over an hour and a half.

The vessel had arrived from Sulina, Romania the previous evening, loaded with petroleum products, and was in the process of unloading when the attack occurred.

Preliminary reports suggest, according to Splash, that the ship has been damaged beyond repair.

Local authorities have confirmed the attack on the port infrastructure but have not officially commented on the damage to the tanker.

Izmail’s oil pier is a key logistics hub for fuel imports to Ukraine via the Danube and handles up to 20,000 tons of fuel per week—including jet fuel and diesel for military supply depots.
