Terminal de Contenedores Dos (TC2), the international trade logistics operator of Puerto Mar del Plata, concluded the first half of 2025 with a 41% increase in its operational volume compared to the same period in 2024, reaching a total of 5,492 TEUs mobilized. This rise in cargo is accompanied by an increase in exports, higher trip frequency, as well as land-based movements.
During the first six months of the year, TC2 progressed in multiple directions: it strengthened its commercial connectivity, diversified its export portfolio, and improved its infrastructure and operational efficiency.
In this regard, the shipping company CMA CGM announced that, as part of the Atlas service, which connects Mar del Plata with the port of Santos (Brazil), it will transition to weekly operations instead of biweekly; while Maersk will maintain frequent activities in the port, consolidating its key role in South Atlantic connectivity. Meanwhile, the reefer vessels that have recently operated with bulk cargo will expand the diversity of logistics services.
Two vessels simultaneously
In line with these developments, it is worth noting that the terminal recently operated two foreign trade vessels simultaneously—an occurrence not seen in over 15 years (CMA CGM’s Artemis at dock 2 and MV Prince of the Seas at dock 3).
While these initiatives reflect the growing dynamism of the port and efforts to enhance its logistical and export functions, in the infrastructure sector, TC2 incorporated new operational equipment and electrical panels for refrigerated containers, aiming to achieve up to 1,000 simultaneous connection positions in the short term. Wiring repair and renewal tasks were also carried out, improving efficiency and safety in reefer cargo handling.
For Emilio Bustamante, director of TC2, the port’s development requires a comprehensive vision, based on public-private collaboration, technological innovation, and management focused on sustainable growth.
“Together with my partner, Alberto Ovejero, and our entire team, we continue to bet on strengthening the port as a key logistics hub that supports regional exports, encourages investments, and bolsters the development of regional production, consolidating the growth of our city,” he stated.
