The Ministry of National Defense issued a statement regarding the TCG Volkan ship.
In the statement shared on the ministry’s social media account, it was said, “The transfer of the TCG Volkan ship, donated within the scope of cooperation in the defense industry, to the Maldives began on July 1, 2025, and was successfully completed on August 7, 2025.”
The statement continued with the following remarks: “A Turkish flag-lowering ceremony was held aboard the TCG Volkan, which docked at Male Port on August 10, 2025. The ceremony was attended by our Military Attaché accredited to the Maldives from New Delhi and the Director General of International Defense Cooperation and Procurement of the Maldives Ministry of Defense. The commissioning ceremony, marking the official inclusion of the TCG Volkan into the inventory of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), took place on August 15, 2025, with the participation of the President of the Maldives, senior state officials, our Ambassador to Colombo Semih Lütfü Turgut, and our Navy Commander Admiral Kadir Yıldız.”
