The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has begun the dismantling of the last of the portainer cranes that were operational in the La Candelaria container terminal, due to its advanced state of deterioration. This is a Paceco G6 Mark model crane, which obtained the concession in 1995 and which has been extinguished since 2011. “The objective is to guarantee structural safety throughout the disassembly and avoid any risk for the operators and the port environment,” commented the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Alberto Santana.
The work to be carried out includes the disconnection of electrical and mechanical systems, the disassembly of metal structures, and the securing of each component for its subsequent handling and comprehensive management of the generated waste. The dismantling will be done in two phases, the first of which will consist of the removal of the modules that make up the seaside boom, with a total weight of 32 tons, followed by the end beam and the rear boom beams, which add an additional 38 tons. The final phase will be the removal of the rail beams at ground level. The total dismantling is expected to be completed by September 5th.
