TGS has secured a new ocean-bottom node (OBN) contract in Europe, marking the company’s first firm award for the 2026 acquisition season.
The Oslo-listed seismic group said its node-on-a-rope crew will mobilise in early May 2026 for a programme expected to run for about 60 days. The job comes from a long-standing client that has previously contracted TGS for reservoir monitoring and OBN services.
Chief executive Kristian Johansen said the award helps anchor what the company expects will be a busy year in the European OBN market. “The region has several tenders planned for 2026 and our aim is to build a robust acquisition campaign,” he said. “This award reflects our customer’s confidence in our OBN technology, our project execution and our ability to deliver high-quality data on time.”
The deal follows two contract extensions in November from a major international energy company for permanent reservoir monitoring (PRM) and 4D OBN work on the Norwegian continental shelf. Those extensions run to 2030, with options for a further five years.
TGS also recently expanded its backlog, signing a three-year capacity agreement with Chevron covering marine streamer and OBN acquisition, in addition to securing another OBN contract in the Gulf of Mexico.
