The Cirtesu-Uji robot fish tested in PortCastelló, award for best work in marine automation at the national level

Must read

The robotics research center and underwater technologies of the Universitat Jaume I has conducted wireless communication tests this week at the PortCastelló facilities between a surface robot and the robot fish that received the award for the best work in marine automation at the national level, within the framework of the conference of the Spanish Committee of Automation held in early September in Cartagena. “For us, it is essential to research in a cyclical and gradual manner, first in the university facilities and then in a realistic environment, such as the port of Castellón, where the collaboration of the Port Authority staff has been key to achieving the advances made,” stated researcher Raúl Marín from Cirtesu.

The jury especially valued the combination of an advanced mechatronic design and the integration of different systems that make the robot fish a leading research and inspection platform for aquatic environments, which has been tested in real experiments. The robot fish stands out for its ability to deploy and recover sensors in the marine environment. Among its characteristics are biometric fins, an umbilical communication system, and an auxiliary system with sonar.

“The tests we carry out every two months in collaboration with Cirtesu-Uji reinforce the strategy of the port of Castellón as a space for innovation and experimentation for more efficient, sustainable, and safe infrastructure,” stated the president of the port of Castellón, Rubén Ibañez.
