The Faroe Islands have reached a historic milestone with the repatriation of maritime law and the entire maritime domain—an important step in the expansion of Faroese self-governance.
In this context, Deputy Director of the Danish Maritime Authority, Rikke Wetter Olufsen, and the Director of Sjóvinnustýrið, Hans Johannes a Brúgv, signed an updated cooperation agreement at Sjóvinnustýrið in the Faroe Islands.
The agreement entails that the close collaboration between the two authorities will continue, and that the Danish Maritime Authority will assist the Faroe Islands in developing the maritime domain.
This includes, among other things, cooperation on work in international contexts, including the UN’s maritime organization, IMO.
The day was rounded off with a small reception, where Sirið Stenberg, the Faroese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, also participated.
