The Council of Ministers has authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender a contract for 12.6 million euros for the drafting, execution and provision of the electrical supply service for cruise ships at the future Catalonia Cruise Terminal G in the port of Barcelona, which has launched a phased electrification plan to provide the docks with the necessary infrastructure for the development of this system.
The port of Barcelona already has the first container terminal with OPS connection in the Mediterranean at the Best terminal, as well as at the passenger and ro-ro cargo terminal at the Sant Bertrán dock, operated by Transmed-Grimaldi. For the state port system as a whole, investments of more than 800 million euros are planned until 2029 for the actions necessary for the deployment of OPS. The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility recently reported an investment plan of 1.6 billion euros to improve and strengthen the State Ports network during 2026.
