Recently, Shenzhen’s first 5000-horsepower pure electric intelligent tugboat, “Shen Gang Dian Tuo 1,” was delivered at Dachan Bay Terminal and is set to commence official operation soon.

“Shen Gang Dian Tuo 1” is Shenzhen’s first pure electric intelligent tugboat and currently the largest-horsepower pure electric tugboat in South China. Constructed by Lianyungang Hongyun Industrial Co., Ltd., its deployment marks Shenzhen’s breakthrough in the application of pure electric vessels, further enhancing the comprehensive service capabilities of Shenzhen Port and supporting the intelligent green development of the shipping industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The tugboat has a total design length of 36.5 meters, a beam of 10.5 meters, and a depth of 4.8 meters. It is equipped with a battery capacity of 6,880 kWh and a propulsion power of 3,678 kW. Designed for a speed of no less than 12.5 knots and a bollard pull exceeding 60 tons, it has also earned additional smart ship certifications, including “Intelligent Engine Room i-Ship(M),” “Intelligent Energy Efficiency Management i-Ship(E),” and “Intelligent Integrated Platform i-Ship(I).”

“Shen Gang Dian Tuo 1” is outfitted with a high-capacity, high-power battery system provided by the 712th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), delivering excellent endurance and robust performance comparable to traditional large tugboats. Its primary task is to assist various vessels in the Dachan Bay Port area with berthing and unberthing operations. During operation, the vessel achieves zero emissions and zero pollution, combining environmental sustainability, quiet comfort, and advanced technology, further showcasing the 712th Research Institute’s expertise in integrated power systems for pure electric tugboats.

As the provider of the vessel’s core power “heart”—the high-capacity, high-power battery system—the 712th Research Institute has infused this “mobile aquatic oasis” with powerful, clean green energy through its leading technical capabilities. The success of this project not only validates excellence in large-scale pure electric vessel propulsion systems but also underscores our commitment to promoting green port operations and supporting the low-carbon transformation of shipping in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We continue to empower green shipping with innovative technologies, driving industry transformation.
