The multi-level and targeted communication strategy of Dorian LPG

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the American School of Classical Studies in the center of Athens, the 17th Eukranti Awards ceremony took place.

It is noted that the Eukranti Awards are organized by the magazine Naftika Chronika and have been established, since 2008, as a fixed point of reference with distinct significance in the consciousness of the Greek shipping community.

This year’s 17th consecutive edition of the Eukranti Awards was once again a tangible example of the consistency and reliability of an event that aims to highlight shining examples and models within the ranks of the Greek shipping family.

The 2024 Eukranti Award for Best Strategic Communication was awarded to Dorian LPG.

Dorian LPG was founded in 2013, under the leadership of John K. Hadjipateras, and focuses its activities on the management of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers.

The company’s managed fleet consists of 25 modern Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), with a total carrying capacity of approximately 2.1 million cubic meters, for which 849 seafarers are employed. Of these vessels, 21 are owned, with an average age of just eight years. Overall, Dorian LPG’s fleet is characterized by the presence of efficient and eco-friendly vessels, while recently the company added dual-fuel VLGCs to its fleet. Since its inception, a core principle of the company’s operation has been the safe, reliable, clean, and uninterrupted transportation of cargo.

The company, which has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2014, maintains offices in Stamford, USA, as well as in Copenhagen and Athens. It is worth noting that, with a focus on fleet renewal and specialization, Dorian LPG has made a significant investment by ordering a Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC), expected to be delivered by 2026.

In the era of globalized markets, there is increasing influence from social and consumer pressures on most business sectors to operate in a transparent and socially responsible manner. In this context, a company’s strategic communication and the way it interacts with its external environment have emerged as factors of utmost importance, both for successful adaptation to new conditions and for strengthening its credibility, as well as shaping and maintaining a positive public image.

More specifically, as highlighted by the awards committee, Dorian LPG, as a modern shipping company of international scope, presents a structured and effective communication strategy, which can be described as multi-layered yet targeted, with a clear focus on transparency, sustainability, and strengthening relationships with all stakeholders in the shipping community and broader society.

As emphasized by the Eukranti Awards judging committee, the strategic communication implemented by Dorian LPG is developed in a substantive manner across multiple levels. With the consistent participation of the company’s executives in international and domestic conferences and fora, the company demonstrates systematic extroversion, enriching the public maritime dialogue.

At the same time, through the company’s constructive collaboration with the media as well as maintaining a dynamic and substantive presence on social media, Dorian LPG engages in a structured promotion and highlighting of issues concerning the welfare of seafarers, informing young people about maritime professions, as well as equality and diversity in the industry.

Dorian LPG is open to collaborations with universities and vocational high schools, regularly inviting students and pupils to presentations and awareness initiatives, so they can closely familiarize themselves with the company’s mode of operation and the prospects offered by the shipping sector. Simultaneously, through organized internship programs, several young trainees join the company’s workforce and gradually develop into responsible executives, gaining substantial experience and career prospects in the shipping industry.

Overall, Dorian LPG’s communication strategy reflects the vision of a company that follows modern principles and leverages its extroversion not as a promotional tool, but as a fundamental element of a contemporary and transparent strategy.
