The Guardia Civil has inaugurated the new Guardia Civil building in Las Palmas. With this project, another step is taken in the modernization of port infrastructure and the operational security of the facility. “This new infrastructure reinforces the collaboration between institutions and improves the port’s response capacity. Having modern, functional, and secure facilities not only optimizes the operability of the services but also allows for the centralization of all resources in a single space, avoiding the dispersal of units throughout the port,” stated the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada.
With this project, the Port Authority unifies the units of the Fiscal Company, the Fiscal Section, the Maritime Service, the Underwater Activities Group, and the Canine Unit in a single space, thus improving operability and response capacity against drug trafficking, illicit goods, or international networks of smuggling and human trafficking. “The collaboration between the Port Authority and the Guardia Civil is key to the proper functioning of the port and to guaranteeing the safety of all users and the community living on the islands,” acknowledged the president of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada.
“Beyond functionality, these new facilities symbolize the Port Authority’s commitment to security, efficiency, and institutional cooperation, reflecting a model of collaboration that strengthens surveillance, protection, and the response capacity to any incident in the port,” added Beatriz Calzada. The building, with a budget of just over 3 million euros, has two floors and a technical roof with a Z-shaped layout that allows for the differentiation of administrative and operational areas. The ground floor houses the facilities of the Fiscal Section, the Underwater Activities Group, and the Canine Unit. The upper floor contains the offices of the Fiscal Company and the Maritime Service, a meeting room, a training classroom, and staff changing rooms.
