The new underwater drone will protect Danish infrastructure

Must read

A new research and innovation project is developing an autonomous underwater drone designed to protect critical infrastructure beneath the ocean’s surface from threats and sabotage. The Innovation Fund is investing DKK 26 million in the project.

The goal is to develop a drone capable of capturing and immobilizing unauthorized underwater vessels.

“The U-SHIELD project represents a major step forward in protecting our critical underwater infrastructure. By combining advanced technology and collaboration among leading experts, we can create a solution that not only safeguards our resources but also enhances the safety and stability of our society,” says Tim Lysholt Jensen, VP Products & Technology at Teledyne Reson, who is leading the project.

The project brings together experts from Teledyne Reson, Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Southern Denmark, and Copenhagen Subsea, all contributing their unique expertise in underwater technology.

The Innovation Fund is investing DKK 26 million in the project through its Grand Solutions program.

“The project contributes to developing technology that can make our society more resilient to threats against the systems we all deeply depend on—from energy supply to communication. It holds exciting potential for both Denmark and Europe, and we look forward to following the project,” says Cecilie Brøkner, Director of the Innovation Fund.
