Nanning, September 15 (People’s Daily Online) — By Qin Xin and Liu Luyao: On the morning of September 15, the Information Office of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region held the fifth session of a series of themed press conferences titled “Striving to Advance the Construction of ‘One Zone, Two Places, One Park, One Corridor’” at the Guangxi Press Briefing Hall. It was announced at the conference that, as of September 10, the Pinglu Canal has cumulatively completed an investment of 59.25 billion yuan, accounting for 81.5% of the total investment. Specifically, earth and rock excavation, main lock concrete pouring, and waterway engineering have completed 92.2%, 92.8%, and 81.3% of their respective total volumes. The canal is expected to be completed and open to navigation by the end of 2026.

It is reported that the construction of the Pinglu Canal has achieved multiple breakthroughs in technology and management. The nation’s first full-lifecycle smart canal construction platform has been built, utilizing digital and intelligent technologies to provide real-time monitoring and precise management of the entire process of project construction and operation, significantly enhancing management efficiency. The project has comprehensively promoted the establishment of technical standards, implemented ecological protection measures, and conducted whole-process supervision to ensure the project quality reaches a domestically leading level, achieving harmonious coexistence between construction and ecology, as well as integrity and efficiency in all aspects.

Furthermore, the transportation system of the canal economic belt is also being accelerated. Preliminary work for the canal’s river-sea intermodal terminal project is currently underway, and the construction of an integrated logistics information platform for the economic belt is being expedited to continuously enhance the corridor’s transportation capacity, injecting new momentum into the coordinated economic development of the southwestern region.

In recent years, Guangxi has leveraged the strategic牵引 (/pulling force) of the “century project,” the Pinglu Canal, to strengthen the interconnectivity of railways, highways, civil aviation, postal services, and water transport. It has continuously improved infrastructure layout, enhanced transportation service efficiency, deepened smart and green transformation, and promoted the transition of the region’s transportation from “single-point breakthroughs and localized efforts” to “regional coordination and systemic upgrading,” accelerating the construction of a modern comprehensive transportation system.
