On the 11th, at the “Set Sail Net Zero Forum” hosted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications at the “2025 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo” in Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, General Manager Wang Jinrong and 10 domestic and foreign shipping companies and container terminals jointly signed the “Net Zero Carbon Reduction” MOU Declaration.

In the face of global climate change challenges, international organizations such as the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regard ports as key nodes in the journey towards net-zero emissions in the maritime and land transportation link. The Taiwanese government also officially announced the “Net Zero Emissions by 2050” goal in 2021, demonstrating Taiwan’s commitment to environmental sustainability and calling on all industries to jointly invest in carbon reduction actions to accelerate the net-zero transition.

General Manager Wang Jinrong later said at the Sailing Net Zero Forum that in response to international trends and in line with Taiwan’s “2050 Net Zero Emissions” policy goal, Taiwan Port Corporation is actively taking carbon reduction measures on ships, stations, office buildings, etc., such as promoting ship deceleration, rewarding ship environmental indicators, establishing and encouraging the use of shore power, electrifying loading and unloading equipment, electrifying official vehicles, establishing smart energy management systems, and green procurement.

General Manager Wang Jinrong emphasized that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) declaration demonstrates the determination of port shipping operators to care for the earth and maintain the port environment.

In the future, the Port Corporation of Taiwan will deepen exchanges with the industry on carbon reduction issues to ensure that it can align with international standards in the global wave of net-zero transformation, and steadily move towards the sustainable development vision of “low-carbon, co-prosperity, and resilient ports”.
