The Genoese shipping company Ignazio Messina & C. after 20 years has returned to call the port of Nhava Sheva in India with its own ships.
“This milestone marks a significant moment for our company, further strengthening our presence in India with two direct calls: Mundra and Nhava Sheva,” emphasized the shipping carrier led by the Messina family and 49% owned by MSC. “More than a return – the company says – this represents a strategic step forward, a reaffirmation of our commitment to play an increasingly central role in the Indian market, particularly in strengthening trade routes between India and Italy. Our goal is to offer reliable, efficient, and competitive connections with the main European ports via the Suez Canal.”
The goal of growing in the Indian market is also written in black and white in the latest financial statement of Ignazio Messina & C., from which it is learned that last February “the subsidiary Ignazio Messina (India) Pvt Ltd, based in Mumbai, was incorporated. It will replace the third-party agents who, even at the end of the recently concluded financial year, represented the company in the Indian market, particularly regarding export cargo from the country.” The company has been present in India for over 40 years and since 2021 (after a 9-year absence) it has returned to serve that market directly with its own ships.
The subsidiary Ignazio Messina (India) Pvt Ltd “will also support – as stated in the latest financial statement – the project to extend services, such as direct calls with the company’s ships also to Nhava Sheva in addition to Mundra, as well as the coverage of the country’s southern ports through new feeder agreements.” This has now effectively happened.
More precisely, this port has been included in the Mediterranean-Middle /India service operated with three container ships of about 6,000 TEU (frequency every 18 days) that call at the ports of Castellon, Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Naples, Aqaba, Jeddah, Djibouti, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Karachi, Jebel Ali, Jeddah, Misurata and back to Castellon.
