Must read

On Friday, construction began on the world’s first ammonia-powered container ship – Yara Eyde – at Qingdao Yangfan Shipbuilding in China. When deployed, the container ship will sail a route between Oslo – Porsgrunn – Breverhaven and Rotterdam.

“This is more than the start of a ship – it is the start of a new chapter in maritime decarbonization,” says Hans Olav Raen, CEO of Yara Clean Ammonia.

“Yara Eyde embodies our ambition to make low-emission ammonia a reality for shipping and to inspire the industry towards solutions that reduce emissions,” says Hans Olav Raen.

Yara Eyde is being built as a joint project between Yara Clean Ammonia, Yara International, CMB.TECH and North Sea Container Line.

“North Sea Container Line has always sought to offer competitive and sustainable logistics solutions. Yara Eyde is a perfect example of how close collaboration across the value chain can bring groundbreaking technology into commercial operation and deliver tangible benefits for both freight carriers and customers,” says Bente Hetland, CEO of North Sea Container Line.

Yara Clean Ammonia is headquartered in Oslo.
