How can the maritime industry accelerate its efforts on reducing greenhouse gas emissions?
ABS Houston Sustainability Centre manager Stergio Stamopoulos identified three key drivers that can accelerate the maritime industry’s decarbonisation in an interview with Riviera Maritime Media executive editor and head of business relations Edwin Lampert.
The first of these drivers is regulations on the international, regional and local level. The second is access to capital. And the third is the expectations of cargo owners and consumers.
“There is a push from regulatory framework, but also there is a push from consumers and society in general for shipping to decarbonise,” he said.
Mr Stamopoulos participated in a panel discussion, ‘COP26 and its impact on the maritime industry’ at Maritime Air Pollution and Fuel Technologies Americas 2022 in Houston in April.
