Three dead sailors after an explosion on a dredger were recorded at the mouth of the Bystre River in Odesa, Ukraine.
A deadly explosion occurred on a dredger conducting operations at the mouth of the Bystre River in the Odesa region of Ukraine on July 23. According to authorities, three sailors from the crew have lost their lives, while an investigation into the incident has been launched.
The explosion occurred late at night while the vessel, operated by Delta-Lotsman of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, was participating in scheduled dredging operations. Eleven crew members were aboard the ship.
Three crew members lost their lives in the explosion, while the rest sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, authorities temporarily closed the mouth of the Bystre to ships, redirecting vessels to and from the ports of Ukraine’s Danube region via the Sulina Canal in Romania.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
