At 6:00 on August 13, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow warning for severe convective weather, a yellow typhoon warning, and a yellow rainstorm warning.
Severe Convective Weather Warning
From 08:00 on August 13 to 08:00 on August 14, parts of southeastern Inner Mongolia, northern and western Northeast China, northern Jiangsu and Anhui, and eastern South China are expected to experience thunderstorms with winds of force 8 or higher or hail. Among them, parts of northeastern Heilongjiang, western Liaoning, southern Fujian, and eastern Guangdong will experience thunderstorms with winds of force 10 or higher, with maximum winds reaching force 11 or above. Parts of southeastern Inner Mongolia, northern and western Northeast China, western and northern Jianghuai, Jianghan, northern and western Jiangnan, eastern and southern Southwest China, and South China will experience short-term heavy rainfall with hourly precipitation exceeding 20 mm. Among them, parts of southern Fujian and eastern Guangdong will experience hourly precipitation exceeding 50 mm, with a maximum of over 70 mm.
Typhoon Warning
This year’s 11th typhoon, “Podul,” intensified into a severe typhoon this morning (13th). At 05:00, its center was located about 170 km southeast of Taitung City, Taiwan, in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, at 22.0°N latitude and 122.6°E longitude. The maximum wind speed near the center was force 14 (42 m/s), with a minimum central pressure of 955 hPa. The radius of the force 7 wind circle was 170–320 km, the force 10 wind circle was 80–100 km, and the force 12 wind circle was 50 km.
It is expected that “Podul” will move west-northwest at a speed of 25–30 km/h and further intensify, making landfall along the southeastern coast of Taiwan around noon on the 13th (typhoon or severe typhoon level, 40–45 m/s, force 13–14). After crossing Taiwan Island, it will enter the Taiwan Strait in the afternoon of the 13th and make a second landfall along the coast from Xiamen, Fujian, to Shantou, Guangdong, from the night of the 13th to the early morning of the 14th (severe tropical storm or typhoon level, 25–33 m/s, force 10–12). It will then continue moving west-northwest, gradually weakening.
Wind forecast: From 08:00 on August 13 to 08:00 on August 14, the southern East China Sea, the ocean east of Taiwan, the northeastern South China Sea, the Bashi Channel, the Taiwan Strait, the northern coast of Taiwan Island, the northern coast of Fujian, and the central-eastern coast of Guangdong will experience winds of force 6–8. The southern coast of Taiwan Island, the central-southern coast of Fujian, the southeastern ocean of Taiwan, and parts of the Taiwan Strait and Bashi Channel will experience winds of force 9–10. Areas near the typhoon center will experience winds of force 11–14, with gusts of force 15–16.
Precipitation forecast: From 08:00 on August 13 to 08:00 on August 14, eastern Guangdong, eastern and southern Fujian, and most of Taiwan Island will experience heavy to torrential rain. Among them, southeastern Fujian, southeastern Guangdong, and eastern and southern Taiwan Island will experience torrential rain, with localized extremely heavy rain (250–390 mm) in eastern and southern Taiwan Island.
Rainstorm Warning
From 08:00 on August 13 to 08:00 on August 14, parts of central Heilongjiang, western Jilin, western Liaoning, southern Henan, central Hubei, northern Jiangsu, western Yunnan, eastern Guangdong, eastern and southern Fujian, southern Tibet, and most of Taiwan Island are expected to experience heavy to torrential rain. Among them, parts of southeastern Fujian, southeastern Guangdong, and eastern and southern Taiwan Island will experience torrential rain, with localized extremely heavy rain (250–390 mm) in eastern and southern Taiwan Island. Some of the above areas will be accompanied by short-term heavy rainfall (maximum hourly rainfall of 20–50 mm, locally exceeding 70 mm), with localized severe convective weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds.
