An owner of factory vessels supplying fish to the Japanese market is deploying multi-layer communications as demand for crew and business connectivity rises
Toei Reefer Line will install hybrid communications systems on board its fish factory vessels to support its evolving crew and business connectivity.
Viasat subsidiary Inmarsat Maritime will supply NexusWave to the Japanese owner to enable seafarers on its vessels to use unlimited internet and for the company to access connected applications and implement real-time monitoring.
NexusWave seamlessly integrates Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites owned by Eutelsat OneWeb, coastal 4G and 4G, and L-band services to deliver reliable high-speed internet with unlimited data and global coverage.
“Crew welfare is our top priority. We employ up to 50 crew per vessel and providing them with unlimited data while they spend many months out at sea away from their loved ones is a priority,” said Toei Reefer Line IT director Shinobu Iijima.
“At the same time, we have experienced a surge in business-related data consumption due to the growing demand for connected applications and real-time monitoring as our vessels increasingly function like floating factories.”
