Toei Reefer Line has agreed a deal to install Inmarsat’s NexusWave service on its factory vessels to support crew welfare and business operations, including real-time data monitoring and cloud-based ship management.
Toei Reefer Line operates vessels designed to process and store cargo at temperatures as low as -55°C and will use NexusWave’s combination of Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), coastal LTE, and L-band services to provide free, unlimited internet access for crew, while also enabling tracking of onboard temperature sensors, remote vessel network access, and cloud applications.
“Crew welfare is our top priority. We employ up to 50 crew per vessel and providing them with unlimited data while they spend many months out at sea away from their loved ones is a priority,” said Shinobu Iijima, IT Director, Toei Reefer Line.
“At the same time, we have experienced a surge in business-related data consumption due to the growing demand for connected applications and real-time monitoring as our vessels increasingly function like floating factories.”
