TOGO’s Lome Container Terminal (LCT) will expand its terminal with EUR50 million (US$50.1 million) to pay for including cranes and yard trucks, reports Geneva’s togo First.
Expansion works at the West African terminal started on July 8, in the presence of Edem Tengue, minister of maritime economy.
The terminal will cover five to six hectares. LCT investors include Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), the world’s biggest container shipping company, and Hong Kong headquartered China Merchants Holding.
Last year, MSC announced a EUR30 million investment programme aimed at boosting LCT’s annual capacity to 2.7 million TEU, from 2.2 million TEU at the time of the announcement. The Italian-Swiss shipowner should increase its position at the port of Lome, through the acquisition of Bollore’s logistics assets.
