Tokyo Gas signs non-binding LoI with Glenfarne on Alaska LNG Project

Must read

Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. announced on October 24, 2025, that it has signed a new non-binding Letter of Interest with a subsidiary of the U.S.-based Glenfarne Group, LLC regarding the Alaska LNG Project.

The agreement aims to facilitate information exchange and economic assessments concerning potential future LNG procurement.

Although not legally binding, the document reflects Tokyo Gas’s role as a strategic partner and its intent to monitor the project’s progress.

The Alaska LNG Project, promoted by Glenfarne, involves liquefying natural gas produced from the North Slope gas fields in Alaska and transporting it to an LNG facility in Nikiski.

The project is designed to produce approximately 20 million tons of LNG annually. Due to the region’s abundant gas reserves and proximity to Asia, the project could contribute to improving LNG supply stability in the region.

Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. is a Japanese public utility company engaged in the production, supply, and sale of city gas, electricity, and related energy services. Headquartered in Tokyo, it operates as one of Japan’s largest gas suppliers, serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Glenfarne Group, LLC is a privately held U.S.-based company founded in 2011 and headquartered in New York. It develops and manages energy infrastructure projects in LNG, power generation, alternative energy, and utility sectors. The group operates through several subsidiaries, including Glenfarne Alaska LNG, LLC, which holds a 75% stake in the Alaska LNG Project.

The Alaska Gasline Development Corporation is a state-owned enterprise established by the government of Alaska. It holds a 25% interest in the Alaska LNG Project and is responsible for developing natural gas infrastructure to monetize the state’s North Slope gas resources.
