Towards the international market! Singapore shipbuilding company launches all-electric cargo ship

Must read

Singapore green technology solutions provider Yinson GreenTech (YGT) has officially unveiled its new generation fully electric cargo vessel – the Hydromover 2.0, which will be deployed in the United Arab Emirates.

This new vessel, launched by YGT’s marine electrification solutions division marinEV, features longer range, faster charging speed, and greater cargo capacity, while integrating digitalization and electrification technologies in vessel operations.

The Hydromover 2.0 is an upgrade based on the first-generation Hydromover prototype launched in 2023, which was also Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel. It adds several key features, including higher energy storage capacity, an optimized hull design to reduce resistance, and a new electrical system architecture that minimizes power loss.

These improvements increase the Hydromover 2.0’s range to three times its original, sufficient to cover all anchorages within the Singapore port limits.

Furthermore, this new electric cargo vessel can be fully charged within two hours, ensuring high availability and operational reliability; its cargo carrying capacity is increased by 25%, and the deck area is increased by 75%.

YGT stated that the Hydromover 2.0 embodies the company’s strategic vision of integrating electrification and digitalization in maritime operations. The vessel is fully integrated with marinEV’s Marine Digital Platform, supporting real-time data analysis, route optimization, automated vessel management, and data-driven decision-making.

At the new vessel launch ceremony, YGT signed its first bareboat charter agreement with UAE’s Yacht International, marking the Hydromover 2.0’s official entry into the international maritime market. The vessel is expected to be delivered to the UAE by mid-2026.

Additionally, YGT, Yacht International, and Wilhelmsen Port Services signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at jointly promoting the widespread application of electric vessels in UAE ports.

Jan-Viggo Johansen, Managing Director of marinEV, stated: “The new Hydromover 2.0 sets an unprecedented standard for the modern maritime industry. The newly signed UAE agreement also marks a significant step in our development. These milestones demonstrate our ability to bring innovation from the laboratory to real-world application – taking proven electric vessel technology, IoT systems, and integrated digital platforms from Singapore to global markets. This further strengthens our commitment to transforming port operations through the combination of electrification and digitalization, and lays the foundation for building a smarter, cleaner, and more connected maritime future.
