Tragic end for a sailor during a cruise on the Arvia. A crew member lost his life after an accident on the luxury cruise ship Arvia of P&O, shocking both the company and the passengers.

It is one of those unpleasant incidents that no one expects to hear about on a fun trip. A crew member lost his life following an accident on the luxury cruise ship Arvia of P&O, reminding us once again that even in the sea entertainment industry, risks are always lurking.

According to the media and the coast guard, a crew member lost his life after an accident that occurred on the P&O cruise ship Arvia.

The ship was on the second day of a seven-day cruise, taking place in the Caribbean from the United Kingdom.

The 185,581 gross tonnage Arvia is one of the largest cruise ships in the world and, together with its sister ship Iona, is the largest operating cruises departing from the United Kingdom.

The Arvia was put into service by P&O Cruises UK in 2022, is 344 meters long, and has the capacity to host more than 6,600 passengers and approximately 1,800 crew members.

P&O confirmed with a brief statement that there had been an accident on the ship. It stated that its thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the deceased, without providing further details.

Although the ship is registered in Bermuda, it is under British oversight, while the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch recorded the incident. It has been characterized as an accident that occurred in the lift well (elevator) and happened on October 26. The MAIB reports that it will investigate the incident on behalf of the Bermuda Maritime Authority.

The cruise ship was at sea with its destination being the first port it was scheduled to call at, Tenerife. However, Puerto de la Coruña, on the northern Spanish coast, reported that the Arvia stopped on October 26 from 3:00 p.m. until the night, following the accident in the work area. The ship remained until around midnight and continued its journey to Tenerife.

Yet another tragic incident comes to remind us of the danger hidden in a ship’s workplace, even if it is a cruise ship carrying thousands of passengers.
