According to a report from local media, a crew member from India who fell overboard near the Maldives has been confirmed dead by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
The MNDF announced that the body was discovered in the southern waters of K. Feydhoofinolhu by their Coast Guard’s Second Squadron, which operates under the Male’ Area Command. The remains have since been transferred to the Maldives Police Service for further examination.
This unfortunate event occurred late on September 22 aboard the MSV Daulah, an Indian-flagged cargo ship anchored approximately one kilometer north of Vilimale, close to Male’, the capital of Maldives. At around 11:35 PM, crew members reported that one individual was missing and suspected to have fallen into the water.
In response to this alarming situation, MNDF’s Coast Guard initiated an immediate search operation involving both aerial and maritime units. Despite extensive efforts lasting several hours, as of 7:22 AM on September 23—about eight hours after he went missing—the search had yet to yield any results.
The recovery operation continued until Friday when authorities finally located and retrieved the deceased crew member’s body. The MNDF has confirmed this development and stated that investigations are ongoing with assistance from local police.
