Must read

A Transocean subsidiary has taken delivery in late December of the eighth generation ultra-deepwater drillship Deepwater Titan, according to Singaporean shipbuilder Sembcorp Marine

A sister vessel to Deepwater Atlas delivered earlier in 2022, Deepwater Titan is the world’s second eighth-generation drillship based on the Sembcorp Marine Group’s Jurong Espadon 3T design.

The dual-derrick drillship is reportedly the first-ever unit delivered with two 20,000-psi blowout preventers (BOPs), well-control, riser, and piping systems for high-pressure and high-temperature drilling and completion operations. Deepwater Titan is equipped with three-million-pound hook-load hoisting capacity and capabilities to drill up to 12,000 m and operate in waters of 3,700 m.

Designed for enhanced safety, efficiency and sustainability, Deepwater Titan incorporates greener features for energy efficiency, fuel optimisation and reduced emissions consistent with the industry’s goal of contributing to a lower carbon future.

It will go on a five-year charter with Chevron in the US Gulf of Mexico starting in Q2 2023 at a day rate of US$455,000, according to Transocean’s latest fleet status report.

Sister vessel Deepwater Atlas is already under charter to Beacon for a drilling campaign in the US GoM.
