Tripmare increases the fleet with the arrival of two hi-tech tugboats

Must read

Tripmare, the company holding the concession for towing services in the port of Trieste since 1994, has announced a significant enhancement of its fleet with the addition of two state-of-the-art tugboats renamed Captain Cat and Med Rigel.

The inauguration of the new vessels, which belong to the Damen Rsd Tug 2513 series, took place within the premises of the Trieste Port Authority. A company note emphasizes that the introduction of the new tugboats directly addresses the challenges posed by the evolution of maritime traffic, particularly the increase in ship sizes and the growing focus on safety and environmental protection.

“The challenges of navigation and port operations are constantly evolving,” stated Alberto Cattaruzza, CEO of Tripmare. “With the arrival of Captain Cat and Med Rigel, we reaffirm our commitment to guaranteeing the highest standards of safety and sustainability for the port of Trieste. Our work is aimed at satisfying all needs following a perspective that constantly aims to reduce environmental impact and increase personal safety.”

The Rsd Tug 2513 models, thanks to their reverse stern propulsion and bidirectional hull configuration, are designed to offer excellent performance in terms of operational efficiency and control in all conditions. The two new tugboats not only expand routine operational capabilities, with berthing and unberthing, but also significantly strengthen the safety apparatus of the port of Trieste, a key hub in a complex port context for the oil, container, and ro-ro traffic sectors.

Captain Luciano Del Prete, Maritime Director of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Commander of the port of Trieste, emphasized the importance of the milestone “represented by the presentation and entry into service of two new tugboats, cutting-edge vessels that will significantly enrich the safety apparatus of our port.” The new units guarantee a timely intervention in case of emergencies, such as fires or spills of hazardous substances.
