Tug technology pathways to 2050 revealed at key industry convention

Tug owners, designers, builders and propulsion system manufacturers will present key technologies and strategies for decarbonising the towage industry at the International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards 2022 conference

ITS 2022 is being held in Istanbul, Turkey 28-30 September 2022 with an industry-leading exhibition, three-day conference, awards dinner and many social events.

Two sessions during the conference will assess the technology pathways tug owners are considering to reach decarbonisation goals set by regulators for 2050, with critical analysis of the technological decarbonisation pathways available to tug operators spanning alternative fuels, hybrid and electric options.

This key section of the conference programme will provide opportunities for delegates to benchmark the strategic approach they are taking to the green transition from propulsion selection through to streamlined towing line management.

During this session, Svitzer group head of technical innovation Thomas Bangslund will talk about balancing propulsion selection, tug operating profile, infrastructure and operational realities.

Presentations will be made by ITS 2022 partners and propulsion system innovators, including Berg Propulsion, Caterpillar Marine, Rolls-Royce Solutions and Schottel; and papers will be presented from exhibitors Elkon Elektrik, IHI Power Systems Co and Steerprop.
