Typhoon “Haiyan” made landfall on the coast of Vietnam last night. Typhoon “Fung-wong” intensified into a severe tropical storm this morning.

The center of Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 25th typhoon of this year (severe typhoon level), made landfall near the coastal area of Qui Nhon City, Gia Lai Province, Vietnam around 7:35 pm yesterday (6th). At the time of landfall, the maximum wind force near the center was force 14 (42 m/s), and the central minimum pressure was 955 hPa. After landfall, “Kalmaegi” gradually weakened and weakened to a tropical storm level in the northeastern part of Cambodia at 5:00 am today (7th). Its center was located at latitude 14.4 degrees north and longitude 106.6 degrees east, with a maximum wind force of force 8 (18 m/s) and a central minimum pressure of 998 hPa.

However, affected by the combined influence of the residual circulation of “Kalmaegi” and the southward cold air, from 08:00 on the 7th to 08:00 on the 8th, the Taiwan Strait, the Bashi Channel, the northern and western parts of the South China Sea, the Dongsha Islands, the Xisha Islands, the western part of the Nansha Islands, the Qiongzhou Strait, and the Beibu Gulf will experience force 5-7 winds, with gusts reaching force 8.

Typhoon Fung-wong, the 26th typhoon of this year, intensified from a tropical storm to a severe tropical storm at 5:00 am this morning. Its center is located in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, approximately 1950 kilometers east-southeast of Manila, Philippines, at latitude 11.0 degrees north and longitude 138.6 degrees east. The maximum wind force near the center is force 10 (25 m/s), the central minimum pressure is 985 hPa, and the radius of the force 7 wind circle is 320-420 kilometers.

It is forecast that “Fung-wong” will move west-northwest at a speed of 25-30 kilometers per hour, gradually intensify, and approach the eastern coast of Luzon Island, Philippines.

According to the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, as of 6:00 AM on November 7th, Typhoon Kalmaegi has caused at least 152 deaths and 86 missing persons in the Philippines, with the affected population exceeding 2.25 million.

Data shows that there were 123 flood incidents nationwide in the Philippines, with over 9,500 houses damaged, 81 public facilities including hospitals and schools damaged, power supply affected in 162 /municipalities, communications affected in 22 /municipalities, classes suspended in 707 /municipalities, and work suspended in 483 /municipalities. Agricultural losses exceeded 10 million Philippine Pesos (approximately 1.2 million Chinese Yuan Renminbi).
