The Bulk carrier John. J. Boland lost propulsion while traversing Lake St. Clair on 10th October. The vessel was towed to Detroit and fortunately, no injuries, vessel damage or pollution was reported in the incident.
The incident occurred when the bulk carrier John. J. Boland was traveling from Sault Ste. to Toledo, and was near the mouth of the Detroit river. The vessel suffered engine problems, which caused it to lose propulsion.
The vessel then put down anchor to prevent drifting or running aground. Two tugboats, namely the Minnesota, and the Ohio were dispatched to assist the vessel. The tugboats took the vessel under tow and headed to Downtown Detroit.
John. J. Boland is a US flagged self discharging bulk carrier that was built in 1973. The vessel has a length of 207.26 metres, a beam of 23.77 metres, and a gross tonnage of 13,862.
