Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company launches Danube Grain Route with fast transshipment in Constanta

Must read

The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company is launching the Danube Grain Route project, the Ukrainian media quoted Company General Director Dmitry Moskalenko as saying on a social network.

He said the company had invested in the creation of its own grain transshipment facilities and agreed with the Romanian partners – the TTS group of companies – on a faster and more efficient transshipment scheme in the port of Constanta.

A benefit of the new grain project’s first stage is the faster loading and unloading process to reduce the average caravan turnaround time by about 30%. As a result, cargo owners will not incur financial losses from long lines at the terminal, Moskalenko said.

In the future, the barge caravan will be performing up to two trips per month thanks to the online control and video surveillance systems on the ships and the increased number of navigators, he said.

It is planned to build more barges at the second stage of the project to enlarge the tonnage of grain and to modernize the carriers – the self-propelled fleet will undergo an overhaul with the replacement of engines.
