Ultraport Mejillones and Re-Trazos promote circular economy with uniform recycling

Must read

Ultraport Mejillones and Re-Trazos, a venture specialized in sustainable manufacturing, promoted the circular economy and environmental care through the recycling of 217 disused uniforms, which took place within the framework of the company’s 30th anniversary.

“Poplin is a light and resistant fabric, bright to the eye and delicate to the touch. Its use in work uniforms is due to its durability, resistance to wrinkling and breathable properties, qualities that guarantee comfort and safety in different work environments, including the port environment,” Ultraport communicated.

“Over time and due to their continuous use, these garments naturally tend to wear out. As part of its commitment to workers, Ultraport carries out a permanent renewal of poplin uniforms, which generates a significant amount of disused fabric,” it added.

In this way, the 217 disused uniforms were transformed into 240 functional and resistant backpacks, which were delivered to the port workers. In total, 158 jackets, 16 poplin pants and 23 of the company’s blue gabardine slack outfits were reused.

“Each backpack tells a story of reuse and commitment to the environment. This project not only prevents valuable materials from becoming waste, but also promotes the circular economy and creates awareness about the importance of extending the life of products,” highlighted Kendra Iriarte, founder of Re-Trazos.

For his part, Felipe Cerda, manager of Ultraport Mejillones, stated that “this initiative reinforces our commitment to sustainable development through collaboration. We are proud to give a second life to our workers’ uniforms and transform them into a useful product, which reflects social and environmental responsibility.”

The delivery of the backpacks took place within the framework of an internal activity to commemorate the 30 years of operations of Ultraport Mejillones, an instance that allowed sharing and celebrating the milestone together with the company’s workers.
