Unifeeder and Sagarmala Finance Corporation join forces to advance green coastal shipping in India

Must read

Unifeeder, a DP World company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Ltd (SMFCL) to accelerate the development of sustainable and commercially viable coastal shipping services across India. SMFCL operates under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, establishes a collaborative framework to design and finance coastal shipping corridors that support India’s goals of reducing road congestion, lowering logistics costs, and cutting carbon emissions. The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

Under the agreement, SMFCL will leverage its Maritime Development Fund to provide low-cost financing and credit-enhancement instruments, while Unifeeder will contribute its extensive operational expertise, multimodal infrastructure, and advanced digital systems.

The partnership seeks to create a scalable coastal logistics model that enables a modal shift from road to sea—strengthening India’s multimodal connectivity, enhancing logistics efficiency, and supporting the nation’s green shipping and decarbonisation agenda.
