The US and Germany signed an agreement to collaborate on climate action and the energy transition on 27 May 2022, an agreement that commits them to working together on offshore wind energy and related technology
The agreement was signed by German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate ProtectionRobert Habeck, US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and US Energy Deputy Secretary David Turk.
The US-Germany Climate and Energy Partnership was signed during last week’s ministerial meeting of the G7 climate, energy, and environment ministers in Berlin.
The aim of the partnership is to intensify cooperation in the field of energy and climate and identifies three key areas of collaboration: accelerating climate action to ensure a net-zero future; developing and deploying technologies to speed the energy transition; and promoting ambitious climate policies and energy security in third countries.
The US-Germany Climate and Energy Partnership will be co-chaired on the US side by Mr Kerry and Secretary of Energy Granholm, and on the German side by Federal Minister Habeck and Federal Minister Baerbock.
Working groups on offshore wind, hydrogen, zero-emission vehicles and cooperation with third countries have already been established.
