US Navy Military Sealift Command (MSC) will use the latest Ka-band satellite communications following the award of a major contract valued US$578M over 10 years
Inmarsat Government secured this contract from the US Defense Information Systems Agency to provide MSC with worldwide end-to-end commercial communications services using its network of geostationary satellites.
This will enable Inmarsat to maintain and operate commercial communications infrastructure, which includes satellite constellation, teleports and terrestrial services.
Inmarsat will upgrade the primary afloat network of the US Navy from Ku-band to its Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band system, replacing antenna hardware and below-deck terminals.
GX will be paired with Inmarsat Elera’s enhanced L-band service – airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance – to provide a reliable, global back-up network.
This combination of networks ensures MSC has secure global communications, delivering a high-throughput, low size and weight solution.
Inmarsat connectivity provides a worldwide integrated solution delivering high-throughput with diversity in radio frequency bands and delivery paths to ships at sea.
There is guaranteed performance from network availability and committed data rates so MSC managers know they will get exactly what they pay for, enabling bandwidth planning based on actual data needs.
Inmarsat will provide a fully managed service with end-to-end services, and service flexibility.
