THE us consul general in Mumbai wrote a letter asking the Mumbai Port Authority to forbid Russian vessels calling at the port because of US sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, reports Delhi’s The Print.
Meanwhile, India has continued its trade with Russia. ‘We can’t deny permission to any ship unless and until we receive directions from either the Directorate General of Shipping or agencies like the Coast Guard,’ said a Mumbai Port Authority official. ‘Being the regulatory authority, the DGS makes that call.’
Said director general of shipping Amitabh Kumar: ‘We have forwarded the US consul general’s letter to the Ministry of External Affairs and have sought their direction,’
