Very unusual task Naval Home Guard

Must read

An unusual drama unfolded on Saturday in the Baltic Sea west of Bornholm, where a tugboat sank while towing an older Swedish fishing cutter. The crew from the tugboat was rescued by the Swedish coast guard, while the cutter drifted in Danish waters.

With the tugboat at the bottom of the Baltic Sea, an alternative had to be found, and around 11:30 am, the Bornholm Naval Home Guard was requested to bring the Swedish cutter to a safe port, writes TV 2 Bornholm.

MHV 903 Hjortø departed with an 11-man crew, put two people aboard the drifting cutter despite sea and difficult maneuvering – and subsequently established a tow to Hasle Harbour, where the vessel is now moored.

According to flotilla chief Jackie Nielsen, the task was unusual for the unit, which rarely handles the salvage of abandoned fishing vessels. He has been in the Bornholm Naval Home Guard since 2014 and does not remember having been involved in a similar task before, he tells the regional station.
