Around 00:45 a.m. today, a launch carrying eight people ran aground on the reef of K. Fushidhiggaru. The incident prompted a swift response from the Maldives Marine Police, who successfully rescued all those on board and safely transferred them to Malé.
According to officials, two individuals sustained injuries during the grounding, while no other serious casualties were reported.
Efforts are currently underway by the vessel’s owner to refloat the launch and remove it from the reef.
Groundings remain a recurring concern in the Maldives, where heavy reliance on marine transport, coupled with changing weather conditions and navigational challenges, underscores the importance of safety awareness and preparedness at sea.
