DFDS is honored, among other things, for a talent program aimed at women, which has increased the proportion of female officers in the shipping company
The Danish Shipping Diversity Award this year goes to DFDS.
With this, the shipping company has dethroned Hafnia, which in two out of the three years the award has existed, has taken the prize home.
The award was presented by Danish Shipping at an event in connection with Copenhagen Pride. DFDS receives the award for promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion in the shipping company.
Among other things, the shipping company has introduced a talent program aimed at women, which has meant that the proportion of female officers in the company has increased from 4.4% to 10% in two years.
DFDS has a goal that the proportion of women in officer positions should reach 20% by 2030.
And DFDS hopes that the company’s initiatives will inspire others.
– It has enormous significance for us. This is something we do as a team. Winning means we are making a difference. Both for our colleagues—but also out in the industry. Hopefully, there is something we do that others can learn from and take further, says Sofie Lindegaard, Director, Head of Group Sustainability at DFDS.
CEO of Danish Shipping Anne H. Steffensen believes that DFDS should be praised for its openness about gender pay gaps and for including transgender individuals in social media campaigns.
The jury describes DFDS’ approach as both inspiring, transparent, and culturally transformative—with the potential to influence the entire industry.
– It is incredibly positive that Danish shipping companies are making a great effort to address both gender distribution and pay gaps between genders. Both are important steps on the path toward greater diversity and inclusion. It is wonderful to see the many initiatives being rolled out to ensure a good and inclusive work environment for the thousands of employees sailing under the Danish flag, says CEO of Danish Shipping Anne H. Steffensen.
In addition to DFDS, Anne Mondrup, Senior Project Manager in Marine People & Culture at A.P. Møller–Maersk, was also nominated for her role in the Maersk Marine Cadet Culture Program, as well as the shipping company Svitzer for its work in promoting diversity and inclusion—particularly on board ships.
